Apprenticeship Testimonials

Melissa French will be our first Higher Apprentice in Retail Management.

Melissa currently works as the Retail Co-ordinator at the Fashion & Textile Museum near London Bridge. As a Retail Co-ordinator she is responsible for bringing income in via the museum shop.

This is a creative and challenging environment where the stock has to be tailored for each exhibition. Melissa has been in this role since July 2012 and is responsible for buying in products such as books. She also develops products for the museum to tie in with specific exhibitions and chooses products from up and coming designers.

Her remit includes the production of sales reports and analysis, budget management, merchandising and stock control, visual merchandising and selling on the shop floor. Additionally, Melissa is developing the Fashion and Textile Museum’s online shop.

Although very experienced in the retail sector, Melissa’s previous qualifications are in textile design and she has no formal qualifications in retail. However, she is keen to continue her career in retail management and is looking forward to starting her Higher Apprenticeship where she can increase her knowledge of buying, stock control and e-commerce, alongside the many other units that the qualification contains.

Melissa is hoping that the Higher Apprenticeship will help her to focus on strategic issues in her demanding job role and progress successfully in the retail sector, as well as enabling her to learn how to recruit and train the museum’s shop volunteers.Bookmark and Share
